From an early age I was taken by my surroundings. When others would rush ahead I’d “stop and smell the roses”, but my roses were buildings and their stems streets. Wherever I found myself I would remark upon the differences and similarities to where I had been before. The complexity and variety of the built environment was an endless area of exploration for me. With the impression of these things fresh in my mind, I would try to recreate my favorite aspects of them in the moment. Be it making an arch from a stack of plastic cups, or a cantilever from leaves pierced with twigs. I would take what was around me to fashion what existed in my mind. I didn’t know what my interest could amount to be at the time, but every proud Lego creation or messy terraforming session with a trowel in the backyard was leading me somewhere, and I have found that somewhere in architecture.
